Shooting competition attire

Hi, I am looking into entering my first 10m pistol competition.

I have been reading the rules from ISSF but other than shoes (not boots) I can't see much regarding acceptable clothing. Normally I wear jeans and T Shirt, is this okay? Or do I need tracksuit or something?

Any tips for a first competition would also be appreciated.

Hi Whizzzz

Regarding clothes, it depends on were you are shooting.
Some clubs/macthes have a more relax approach than others.

In respect to the rules, check 6.7 and 6.22 for a full information on what you can or not wear.
Jeans are not allowed by the rules, but check in with the club first and ask.

For your first match I would recommend two things:
1- Let the referee know that this is your first match before you start it. He will keep an eye on you and help you trough the match if needed. He will also have a more teaching approach rather than a disciplinary one.
2- Have fun!! (and don't count your score until you are finish!)

Pistol? Ha!!! Anything goes! The more casual the better. Jeans, camo pants, ratty sneakers, outlandish T-shirts . . . the more off-center the better.

The running JOKE at CMP between we-the-pistol-people and those "Rifle-people-in-SPACE-SUITS," is they look like aliens & we are totally cool in our "Street Urchin Attire," . . . while THEY might be high-tech - they still have to walk like Penguins to get to the line, hauling 50 pounds of crap. WE show up, shoot, toss the pistol in the case & walk home before the smoke clears . . . .

I wear sweatpants, a tee shirt (or a hoodie of it's chilly) and a pair of Adidas Samba indoor soccer shoes. Technically, jeans aren't legal but not all matches enforce that rule.

I have been watching a number of ISSF videos of rapid fire competitions and apart from some national insignias or flags it would appear that anything goes - hoodies, tracksuits, t-shirts, shorts.

Jeans and camo are illegal but they didn't even enforce those at the US Olympic Trials last year. I don't think I've been to a match yet where those were enforced.

Correct, by statute: Camo and jeans illegal. However, if you're wearing Camo, they can't see you - that's why Marc doesn't DQ us.

What's legal does include: Kilts, hula-skirts, parachute pants from the 80's, Man-Jams from Afghanistan, spray-on pants, bell-bottoms from the 60's, Genie pants, compression trousers (military-anti-shock-trouser (MAST) to prevent choking during the Final, "Space-Suit" pants the rifle-people wear, leather equestrian chaps (no cowboy boots with spurs, sorry . . . ), and denim overalls from an Appalachian moonshine still.

On the bubble: THONGS? - Rover will there with his patented "Thong-Stretcho-Meter" (TSM) to ensure compliance among competitors . . . .

I have seen the camo thing enforced. The jeans on the other hand are often explicitly allowed. As in the rules for the specific event will say "clothing rules according to ISSF. Jeans permitted."

ISSF Rule 6.23.3 is quite explicit in that it says 'blue jeans. Also, jeans or similar trousers in colours not appropriate'.
"Other colours" might be open to interpretation, but "blue" is very specific.

From the ISSF Rules, albeit this may be quite old now:

"6.20.3.1 Prohibited clothing items for competitions and Victory Ceremonies include blue
jeans, jeans or similar trousers in non-sporting colors, camouflage clothing,
sleeveless T-shirts, shorts that are too short (see 6.19.2.8), ragged cut-off shorts,
trousers with patches or holes as well as shirts or trousers with non-sporting or
inappropriate messages (see Rule 6.12.1, no propaganda is permitted). Sporting
colors should be national uniform colors. If national colors are not worn, nonsporting
colors that should be avoided are camouflage, plaids, khaki, olive or
brown."
