Just a quick update: my surgery was rescheduled to January 26 and I've opted to go for distance correction (plano) in both eyes. I experiemented with mini-monovision (or blended vision) using contacts over the holidays and didn't like it at all. It messed with my (aleady poor) depth perception -- going down stairs was interesting -- and driving at night was so disorienting I almost felt unsafe.

Jason, you made the right choice.
I had Cadillac (sic) surgery four years ago.
Air Force colonel just back from the desert did it.
He asked what I wanted, near or far?
I said all I do is shoot so I think I need far.
He said I was correct.
Now I have 20/15 distant vision in both eyes and use reading glasses for close work.
Rifle/pistol scopes, peeps, open without any correction at all.
No glasses for driving too..

It's been almost six months since my surgery, and everything's gone well. I ended up going with TECNIS Eyhance lenses because my clinic wasn't able to get AcrySof IQ Vivity lenses for both of my eyes and I wanted them to match. My left eye went from -10.5 to -0.1, and my right eye from -9.75 to -0.5 -- the surgeon was aiming for -0.3 but the TORIC lens didn't quite take the way he thought it would.
As far as shooting goes, my eyes work great! I add some drops 30 minutes before a relay, and then again after every 40 shots or so (just because), but with the built-in -0.5 for my right eye, I don't need shooting glasses because the front sight is nice and crisp. That said, I have ordered a -0.25 lens for experimentation. I do find the Eyhance lenses let in a lot of light, however, so I need to tinker with my rear diopter size.
So yes, I do need readers for screen work (but only +1.25) and progressives for reading or puttering around the house, but I can drive and go cycling wearing regular sun glasses with no issues (although it took a while for my brain to adjust to my new eyes). Being able to see all the wind flags is amazing, and now that I can see my feet again, I'm planning to restart 3-P training, which should be fun at 50.
