AirGun Cleaning Issue

Post by Gunnar »

I was reading through the Target Talk archives and ran into the issue of using cleaning pellets to clean out the bore. And many advices mentioned that this will just wear off the lining.
I have read other advices from elsewhere about cleaning the bore because of drop in pressure and temp change in the bore that causes condensation and lead deposit to occur.
Both sounds believable yet so awfully tempting.
Also, what about cleaning the other parts? And what do I oil?
In addition to that, what size and brand pellet would be best to shoot to reduce lead deposit?

Read cleaning air guns at: http://www.nygord-precision.com/
Go to "Nygord's Notes" and "Cleaning".
I used cleaning pellets on regular basis, but when cleaned the way it is described in above note and few dirty patches it proved to me that they are worthless.

Don recommended to me to quit using the cleaning pellets because they tend to clog the regulators.

I never used to clean my air pistols on advice. When I took up air rifle, the book recommended cleaning after every session using a solvent. I did this carefully, using a pull through and a patch dampened with Butch's Bore Shine (I love that name) and it came out black. This after just 70 shots. It took 3 damp patches to get it clean and so it is every time I shoot with it.
The felt pellets simply don't work.
Just be careful not to let the solvent get onto the seals and you should be OK
