Which Globe

Post by matorre »

Hi
Trying to decide which globe will work with my clamp on dovetail. CC. Is not sure.

Wide part of the dive tail is
. 468 thou. Or 11.9mm
Narrow portion is
. 304 thou. Or 7.74 mm.

Do I want a standard, one for grovved barrel or??

Thanks for your support

Michael

My 2013 is .437, grooved barrel.

1411 is .455.

FWB is .459.

Of course whatever corner radius is on them distorts the actual dimension.

Michael,

It might be easier to state what model rifle you have.

I am going to go with Tim S here: What kind of gun do you have?

For the rear sight, they all reference an 11mm dovetail when say for Anschutz the wide part tends around .470 or as you note, 11.9mm (Closer to 12mm)

Now, for front sights, Walther is closer to 9mm so that absolutely won't work.
Anschutz is 0.470ish (just shy of 12)
FWB is 0.475ish (just at 12)

For the numbers you provide, I would see if I could borrow a front sight for a 19xx series Anschutz and try that as that is probably the ticket. But seeing as how we could be measuring different things that seem similar in a discussion on a shooting forum, I am making no guarantees.

Michael,

The “grooved barrel” dovetail generally will not fit correctly on the dovetails that are either machined into or screwed onto the common American barrel band type front sight mount.
In the Centra product line, the fitment designation that you should choose is “match 54”.
This will have a base intended to fit a standard old type screw on dovetail block, an example would be Centra part #19906206.
Another option is the Anschutz 9763 (22mm) or 9759 (18mm) Globe Front Sight which has a wider clamping range due to its clamp design.
I have a 9763 that is excess to my needs if you can’t find one.

You also might want to look at changing the dovetail also, if it isn't part of the barrel. That way the sight and dovetail match. The dovetail may need alteration of the mounting holes depending on what firearm you are dealing with.

Today I got a Centra score crystal 22 FWB front site, it measures female wide length= 0.400"= 10.16 mm.
My front dovetail rail on my 2022 FWB 800x measures= 0.475"= 12.065mm wide length.
This site is clearly labelled as FWB.
This must be a manufacturing labelling error,...?

Phone call made to vendor, who measured a 22 score crystal fwb front sight, his #s were 0.520" long, and 0.425" short, this should work, vendor covered swap shipping both ways, easy.

If this is a FWB 800 then yes, something labeled for FWB should work. I suppose that someone could put a different rail on the FWB but I have never heard of anyone doing that. The wide part of the dovetail for your first globe at 10mm sounds like it was intended for a Walther but in the wrong box.

Good Luck and happy shooting.

This one fit, measured as 0.530 long distance, but as picture shows , the long distance is elevated, had a good solid feel when mounting it.
I need some time with the horizontal wires, to see if I want to use them or take them off.

Looks like a MEC 'Crystal' on a FWB dovetail. Regardless of the exact brand, it looks proper and secure.

The wires do help with getting a consistent cant from shot to shot. While I cannot say you absolutely MUST leave them, I would highly encourage leaving them and getting the globe rotated so the whiskers are level when you are in position. Then develop your shot process to remember to look at them as you settle in for each shot.

Score high end crystal (glass aperture )3.8mm ID x 1.0 mm ring width. One night with it, and I really like this thin ring.

One question, Is there a Gehmann or any one else for availability , a poly carbonate fwb 22mm in 3.8 mm ID with a 1.0mm ring thickness or close, thin.

I seem to remember some one who was selling apertures and had a choice of ring thicknesses in poly carb, have been searching plenty,
without finding them. Anyone? Please thank you.

Last night my son got me by one point, He started last April, I knew the day would come, This poly carb 3.8 , 1.0 is for his C60 FWB, That has stock 800x 22mm fwb up front.
The Score high end crystal is too big dia to fit. Thus the search for a polycarb.

If you don't find the fixed aperture that you are looking for, Centra has available a Glass iris with a 1.2mm wide aperture ring.
www.centra-visier.de/en/products/sights ... t-ring-12/

I have this iris in the 3.8-4.8mm size in stock, please PM for details or contact me by direct email at
