Might sound basic to some, but which dimension on a 'scope mounting dovetail is the 'size'?
Is it the physical width of the dovetail at the top, or the width if the edges had not been smoothed off, or the base (narrowest) of the dovetail? (I've always purchased the mounts with the rifle in the past...)

What gun?
The narrow part of the groove.
Some are 11mm and some are 3/8 inch.
A lot of rimfires and airguns are cut the same but not all.
