200 yard smallbore

Post by 40xguy »

Smallbore shooters:
just curious; is there any interest or conversation in the smallbore community about shooting at 200 yards?
Hammer to shape, file to fit, paint to match...

200 yd use to be a regular NRA thing with an official target but not anymore. We do shoot a club match at 50, 100, and 200 yards prone.
I suspect there is little interest since the NRA dropped it long ago.

Our club has been shooting at 200 for several years now, first as a "fun match" and then by popular demand as a regular match along with our 50 and 100 yard rotations. We have the official NRA 200 yard Smallbore targets and shoot with sling or tactical/bipod, scope or irons. Spotting shots is the problem, we have a "sight in" relay so everyone gets a good zero before going for record. Several of our shooters do the longer range, variable distance matches and the conventional prone guys enjoy the challenge. We will have three 200 yard matches for the 2023 outdoor season at Canton McKinley R&P, Canton, Ohio.
