50m (Free) Pistol
Can anyone suggest a good starter pistol for shooting the ISSF 50m competition?
Re: 50m (Free) Pistol
TOZ 35 or whatever you can find cheap.
Re: 50m (Free) Pistol
Whatever you can get your hands on second hand and cheap.

You don't use starter pistols for ISSF. You use starter pistols for track and field.

Ha, ha, ha. You are of course correct. What I meant to say a beginner pistol for shooting the 50m event ;-)

Here's one: https://simpsonltd.com/hammerli-106-free-pistol/
I shot my highest score ever with a Pardini P.GP75.

Re: 50m (Free) Pistol
Is free pistol coming back to Olympic events?
Re: 50m (Free) Pistol
Unless you are VERY lucky, any used free pistol you buy will come with grips that won't fit you very well. You may be able to file/putty them to suit.
That may be more fussing than you are up for, and if you've never done it before, you may end up with a grip that is actually detrimental to your shooting.
Nice wooden grips can be pretty expensive. A cheaper alternative is to talk to Andrew Berryhill at Precision Target Pistol Grips:
https://www.precisiontargetpistolgrips. ... stols.html
The one downside is that the fit of his grips are not adjustable. With diet, hydration level, temperature & age, your hand will change size/shape. An adjustable grip can allow adjusting for that level of variation without breaking out the putty & rasp.

Re: 50m (Free) Pistol
Men do not have any adavntage over Women when it comes to shooting. Biathalon sports should be kept separate. I would love to see 50m Pistol return with even a mixed Team event.
Re: 50m (Free) Pistol
It will never happen. The agenda is not to offer equal opportunity, it is to force equal outcome.
If you have mixed induvidual events, the men would probably win more medals than women (do some research on scores before you shoot be down on that one, air rifle is quite even but in the other events men usually score higher), so that wouldn't fit the agenda.
So, the only thing they can do to force the outcome they want is to have equal number of individual mens and womens events (hence the loss of Free Pistol and Mens Prone rifle) and add the nice politically correct mixed team events.
I'm not in favour of this by the way, just pointing out why we are in this position.

Get TOZ35 (New Old stock $750 on GunBroker) - https://www.gunbroker.com/item/942722234
then I suggest you get a Rink grip for it (~$300 shipped; 6-8 weeks wait) - https://www.formgriffe.de/en/shpSR.php? ... 255&sf=toz
May also want to consider getting a forend/weights replacement and perhaps even a rear sight mounted windage/elevation reference (truly optional) - SportShootingDepot stocks some TOZ items in US - https://sportshootingdepot.com/shop/?ixwpss=TOZ
In the end you will end-up with an excellent competition-ready brand-NEW pistol for about $1100-$1300
P.S. depending on your timeline - check with SportShootingDepot as they are now a Rink dealer and will be keeping some grips in stock in US (will definitely save you some wait time)
