Recoilless Springer vs SSP Pistol

Time to get a non-PCP 10m pistol, mainly for shooting indoors. SSP pistols seem the way to go. The recoilless pistols seem neat but complicated. Any insights or suggestions?

I have a couple. You can usually find a FWB65 cheaper than about anything else. They are an extremely capable gun, but few seem to know it these days. Lots of parts and repairs available. These were plenty spendy when new and it was only recently that records set by these were broken with the new toys.

That said, I would personally prefer a SSP. The Pardini K58 is probably the best bang for the buck, but I really like my Walther LPM1 for its "bullet-proof" construction.

Rover, the SSP pistols just seem simpler, or as you said regarding the LPM 1, more bulletproof. I will start keeping an eye out for them.

What do you mean by: "Time to get a non-PCP 10m pistol, mainly for shooting indoors"? I've had PCP pistols for about 15 years and never shot a pellet outdoors except at the odd marauding squirrel.

If you want no bother with a scuba tank, get a pump. That will be equivalent to your SSP except you do the work - more effectively at that - all at one time.

I know it's not very glamorous but if you just want to try a SSP a Beeman p17 is very reasonable and accurate.

William, I am fully invested in PCP, including having a large HPA compressor to fill big CF tanks. I recently picked up some competitive rifles like the FWB 300S that are essentially recoilless. Very accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. I just want to try the same with a pistol. Good luck to you indoors and also controlling the marauding squirrels.

I have both recoilless spring and SSP pistols. I enjoy shooting my Izzy and 103 more often than the FWB 80. The “lock time” on SSP’s is faster than the spring piston and PCP’s.

I’d also vouch for the Beeman P17, it’s a great informal target pistol for indoor shooting and it won’t break the bank.

Kevin, I think your experience is probably what I expect will be mine that SSP will be the way to go. And the FWB 103 looks like the best choice. I have no problem picking up a Beeman in the meantime. Thanks for you insight.

Don't dismiss the Daisy 717,747,777 series.
My 777 is a joy to shoot and its limitations make you so much better. The trigger is very shootable, if lacking in adjustment.
Its very capable and forces you into a statue like position. It will make you a better shooter.

I like shooting the P17. For the money it is a good buy. The only thing I will caution you about is that it can be a real bear trap when you close it. There are some really good SSP pistols out there. Don't over look the IZH 46. Cheers...
