On the horns of a dilemma...
My dilemma - I have two Manurhin Match revolvers. One in .38 and one in .32.
If I was to get rid of one, which one should it be?
My new EVO10E has arrived and the wife is insisting that I get rid of one handgun.
It's like deciding which one of your children you are going to sell to the white slavers.
( I may be able to sway her around, but just in case.)
I have plenty of .32 equivalents -
2 x TOZ 49
1 x TOZ 36
1 x Unique DES 32
1 x FAS 603
1 x Pardini HP New All In One .32
2 x SIG-Hammerli P240 .32
1 x Walther GSP
1 x Sako TriAce .32
2 x Taurus 76 .32 revolvers ( very under-rated gun )
1 x Rossi Match revolver .32
Likewise, I also have plenty of .38 equivalents -
1 x S&W Model 14 SAO ( I use this all the time in preference to the Manurhin .38)
2 x SIG-Hammerli P240s in .38
1 x S&W 52-1
2 x SIG P210-5 9mm with factory "lead barrels" - one with SIG-Hammerli ortho grips and unfired.
1 x SIG 210-6 9mm also unfired.
1 x S&W Model 14 Classic in nickel

Just a comment: In nearly 30 years of marriage, my wife has NEVER failed to encourage me in whatever activity I have chosen to pursue. New guns, musical instruments, vehicles, etc. She has always said "Go for it!" I could not have chosen a better woman.

I have a slightly different problem. My wife is also a shooter. If I buy a new gun, I usually have to get her one as well. I'm currently waiting for two MatchGun MG2s to make it through the import process...
Her specialty is sustained fire events. I do better on slow fire events like air & free pistol, so I can get away with buying those solo.

Re: On the horns of a dilemma...
Get rid of the gun you use the least-starting with the unfired ones.

What's her phone number ? (Asking for a friend)
Re: On the horns of a dilemma...
If we could still have handguns here in the UK, I would rip your arm off for one of your two .38 P240's!!
I had one of the very early ones, bought just after they came out in late 74/early 75? - bought directly from the manufacturers.
the serial no was 200482 if I remember correctly. (yes, it was - just checked old files)
Nothing better ever made!
You (or your wife) must be joking!
With the number of guns you have, she wants you to sell ONE because you want to add something else to your collection?
You in Australia? - didn't they go a similar way? (Well, you obviously are able to have handguns - please enlighten me)
Anyhow, enjoy the freedom of being able to shoot target handguns.
We never did want to do anything else but shoot 'results' on a paper target,
but bloody Blair (PM as he was then) had to show his 'statesmanship' by jerking his knee!!
(may he live in interesting times, as the Chinese say!!)
Edit - you have a S&W 52-1 as well! now that is the only other (auto) .38 for target work!!
again, I used to have one in the late 60's and shot my way through the ranks of 'county' championships in Germany
with the 52!
Just out of interest, and because I just remembered (hehe) - my very first target pistol was a Colt Woodsman Match Target in .22
now that also was a nice bit of kit!
Best regards
Gunter

Re: On the horns of a dilemma...
It is legally possibly (and not all that rare) to own pre-1918 handguns in England, Wales and Scotland. It is even possible to shoot them occasionally, provided that this be not for competitive or sporting purposes.
Now for modern handguns, it is different. The issuance of an FAC for those requires the previous grant of a Section 5 authority from the Home Secretary (England and Wales) or from The Scottish Ministers. Which are extremely limited in number.

Rover,
that's not very funny!
there is an extraordinary large number of knife-murders here in the UK nowadays.
Which on the other hand proves that the NRA is correct in their assumption that 'guns don't kill people; people do!'
a criminal who wants to kill someone will use anything he can get his hands on - doesn't need to have access to a gun!!

Re: On the horns of a dilemma...
In one of the various better parts (tm) of the former "UK", it is different. E.g., if you are a Manx(wo)man and want a handgun, you will apply and can get a police permit. The firearms law of that island still basically reflects the 1948 status of the then British Isles.
Manx readers please feel invited to specify and differentiate my (too) general statement. :-)

Re: On the horns of a dilemma...
The Isle of Man isn't, and never has been, part of the United Kingdom.
It is a self governing British Crown Dependency, with it's own government and laws.
I'm surprised that you didn't cite Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, but not part of Great Britain.
Re: On the horns of a dilemma...
I did. I use wide expressions (like "British Isles") purposefully. The exact public law differentiations between the legal status of the Tynwald, the Dame of Sark, Northern Irish unionists etc, I shall duly leave to the better-qualified pedants in a decaying post-brexit dungheap...

Re: On the horns of a dilemma...
Alexander,
HeHe!
I think that the dungheap you refer to will be rapidly cleaned up after the UK finally gets out of this European Socialist Club!
I say this as a German national (well - born there, but I have a more 'International' outlook now, as you might have noticed)
But all this doesn't really fit into this target shooting forum; so I shall leave it at that.
Just out of interest - where in 'old Europe' do you hail from?

Re: On the horns of a dilemma...
Please use "Manx" at every opportunity. It brings to mind the world's best cats and the most interesting motorcycle Norton ever got around to building. I desperately wanted one in my youth but never managed to snag one of the few that made it to my patch.Alexander wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 12:34 pm In one of the various better parts (tm) of the former "UK", it is different.
