2 piece grips (FWB)

Post by Azmodan »

hi
i have never seen a picture of a "worked" or modified 2 piece grip, like on feinwerkbau 100.
FWB used the same style of grips from 65 up to 103 model, but all the pictures of them have the factory grip with no material added.

so the question is... how can one add some wood putty in the finger grooves area? since there is the seam between the 2 parts. putting any there, would glue the 2 grip panels together and make it impossible to remove the grip from the pistol.

(has anyone done something like this? any pictures?)

I had this problem with my P34 I got over it by applying the filler to the finger grooves and when I had the grip how I wanted it I cut down through the filler down the join in the grip. After doing the cut I removed the grip halves until the filler had hardened then I reassembled the grip.

I put a slice of greasy brass shim stock between the two halves. I loaded on the filler and then, when hardened, I removed the brass (that's why it was greasy). I then rasped it to the shape I wanted. I only had to do this with one gun, though.

I just used a sharp craft knife to cut the filler, before cutting I did wet the knife.
