Toz 35m break in procedure?

Post by Hunterdude »

Hello, I am new to the forum, I just purchased what I believe are (3) NIB Toz 35m free pistols...I was not aware there where new ones left but purchased from a reputable dealer and all the accessorys are present and neatly wrapped in waxed paper, also the pistols appear un-fired, but I have no way to be sure.
If they are indeed new, I was told to remove the bronze brush from a bore snake and pull just the snake thru the bore from breech end to muzzle and thats it for bore care. is this good advice? also is there any other things that may need lube or attention or tune ore dubur/polish/ adjustment? any help wold be appreciated. If thay are new I just want to preserve max accuracy. these are the carve your own grip kits in wood box. thank you!

I hear crickets... should I have posted this in bullseye pistol? Or just not good questions/no interest? Or are old Russian Olympic pistols getting to long in the tooth?? Thanks for looking!

Since you ask: trash the BoreSnake forever. Do an initial cleaning with a bore brush to get crusted lube and swarf out of the bore. Thereafter, patches with solvent should take care of things. If in doubt, bore brush, solvent, and patches again.

If I had a new-in-box TOZ35 I'd break it down and remove all the preservative from all surfaces. When I received my used TOZ35M I took it all apart, cleaned everything, wiped everything with Ballistol and reassembled it. I also stoned all the edges and corners of the sear spring to try to delay cracking.

There is a very clever and energetic individual at toz35.blogspot.com that has a lot of good information on TOZ35 and how to make grips:

What's wrong with it?
I use it occasionally and I like it (didn't remove the brush)

It doesn't work without solvent and holds the trash.

BTW I fire-lapped my TOZ and cut the group size in half. I just use CCI Standard in it with good accuracy.

This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for, that link to the guy working on 35M is really nice!
I am glad the poster specified what he did not like about bore snakes holding the junk, I always wash mine. The reason I was told to limit brush use is . 22 rimefire and airgun barrels are made from softer steel as they do not need to hold up to copper jackets, this makes them easy or less hard to rifle....I found this to be true as I shortened a German made Springer air rifle some years ago and took the scrap end PC and band sawed it length wise just to view the rifling...it cut in the saw like butter so I took out my pocket knife to debur the section view parts, I could carve the steel easily with my pocket knife. I am a tool and die trade and not all steel is kryptonite. Some steel actually contains lead to make it more free to machine.I don't want to start any arguments, in fact I recommend you use your favorite cleaning methods. Just know rimfire rifling is in fact delicate.
