Shooting glasses Lens color and pupil size ????

Post by Leadbelly »

Confused here on which is best. Do I need a light dark lens, which makes the pupil larger or
do I want my pupil to be small while shooting. I hope my question is clear.
What do these colored glasses do for 10 meter air pistol :
Blue =
Light red or Rose =
Yellow =
Brown =
and the IRIS attachment =
I am currently using Champion Olympic Shooting Frame with clear 1.50

Thanks

The more tint of the glasses, the more your eyes dilate. And the less depth of field you have. Clear lenses for safety are best.
Colored lenses can help outdoors, due to varying lighting conditions. Indoors I feel they are just another money pit. Spend the money on more pellets, a good coach, or good mental training books (or better all three).

Outdoors, yellow for low light, overcast etc.
Grey for bright to kill glare.

Indoors normally clear, grey if the range has bright hot spots and glare.

Purple tint lens over the optician corrected lens helps with indoors clearness of focus on the sights, at least for older people like myself. I was very surprised when I saw it. But then coach Daniel Goberville told me to ignore all colors and just check regularly for the right correction with the optician.
