Nelson .22lr conversion opinions?
It is said that the Nelson .22lr conversion incorporates the latest and best elements of the original Marvel kit. I have spoken with Larry, nice guy, and he warned me of a long delivery time. Do you think it is worth the wait and the cost of $440?
Re: Nelson .22lr conversion opinions?
I have 3 of them. In my opinion, they are the best .22 conversions available.
Re: Nelson .22lr conversion opinions?
Good endorsement, three!
Re: Nelson .22lr conversion opinions?
Has anyone done any Ransom Rest testing with the Nelson?
Re: Nelson .22lr conversion opinions?
I haven't yet, but I got 1.5" groups off sandbags with Aguila SV. It looks promising. Too bad I don't have any Tenex to try in it.BEA wrote:Has anyone done any Ransom Rest testing with the Nelson?
Re: Nelson .22lr conversion opinions?
Maybe you can find some CCI SV instead.
Re: Nelson .22lr conversion opinions?
I WOULD BUY A MARVEL ALUMINUM LOCK BACK CONVERSION. I OWN 3 DIFFERENT MARVELS. I HAVE RANSOM REST TESTED ALL OF MINE. ALL ARE UNDER AN INCH AT 50YDS WITH CCI SV. ALL ARE UNDER 1/2 INCH AT 50YDS WITH LAPUA SIGNUM. ALSO DENNIS FROM MARVEL IS AT PERRY EVERY YEAR SUPPORTING AND PARTICIPATING ALONG SIDE US. JP
Re: Nelson .22lr conversion opinions?
Just ordered the Nelson with the rail for the MatchDot II and the threaded barrell for the front weight. Larry is eminently accessible and I'm comfortable with him and his product.

Three of them ?ric1911a1 wrote:I have 3 of them. In my opinion, they are the best .22 conversions available.
I have my old Marvel that has only let me down one time after seven years of firing it, the firing pin broke and borrowed a pistol from a fellow shooter to get through the match.
I am not a back up gun kind of shooter, either it works or it does not.
I do not own three or two of the same firearm and that is my question.
Why three ?
Just asking.

Why not three? I like target pistols. I also have a couple of Hammerli 208S', a Unique DES-69, 2 High Standards, some revolvers, etc. That's just the .22s.............. If a fourth Nelson came along at a good price, I would most likely buy it.C. Perkins wrote:Three of them ?ric1911a1 wrote:I have 3 of them. In my opinion, they are the best .22 conversions available.

One reason is that mechanical things don't like me. I need to have several backups. Same thing with trap shotguns. I always take at least 3 to a registered ATA shoot................
Re: Nelson .22lr conversion opinions?
The 2017 National Precision Pistol Champ, Shue, shot a Marvel conversion. I don't know what pistol Henderson (.22 champ) was shooting, but from photos, it looks like a highly modified Hammerli Trailside.

WHY 3?
I HAVE 2 WITH DOTS. BECAUSE MY INDOOR AND OUTDOOR ZEROS ARE WAY DIFFERENT.
I HAVE A 6" FOR DISTINGUISHED FOR THE INCREASED SIGHT RADIUS.
SO WHY NOT ? JP

Love my Nelson .. 2 barrels (one threaded, one not) and 2 tops (iron site, rail for red dot)
shoot threaded with compensator for action pistol
shoot iron site and red dot for bullseye
3 pistols in one!

Re: Nelson .22lr conversion opinions?
Nelson count? I have four. Plus one Advantage Arms.
The AA has a special barrel from Bob Marvel, and one Nelson is Bob's Custom Pro II.
The other 3 Nelsons have a mix of aluminum and steel sight and scope rails. And plain and threaded barrels that take an OPA comp. An aluminum rail on a heavy frame equals a steel rail on a light frame.
