DES 69 vs AW 93

Post by jerber »

A fellow of mine just got a used unique des 69
Met him at the range this afternoon and got to try his new toy
First time for me to try the des 69 and really enjoyed it
The grip was comfortable
The trigger had to be adjusted but was fine after that
Make me want to have one now!
But I like to know how does the U des 69 compares to the FWB AW 93?
They look very similar
I'm just curious since my friend and I were talking about both pistols
I had a chance to buy a AW 93 but never got to it
Thanks
Jerry

This is all pretty anecdotal:

In my view: the DES-69 is pretty primitive compared to the AW-93.
DES-69 good honest piece of equipment in my view, all steel - the trigger is nice enough. Sights are kind of small. I enjoy a big slab sight.

AW-93 is more adjustable in almost every way. As another plus they are still made so getting spare parts isn't so much of a hassle.
They are also the most expensive Standard Pistol on the market.

DES-69 are quite affordable, and quite a good gun for juniors/newbies to learn with. Miles better than a Margolin.

Everything that Sam has said, with the addition that certain parts for the Unique are almost unobtainable, and unless price is a major factor I could not see any reason to choose the 69 over the 93.

Having said that the 93 is a little dated as well, and there are many newer, better optioned ( grip angle adjustment for eg. ) pistols that may well be worth looking at before purchase.

Some examples are:

Pardini new SP and RF
Walther SSP
Benelli MP90
Matchguns MG2
Morini. SP and RF
Hammerli SP20

@sam
I did noticed how small the rear sight is
I like larger one
I know that the des 69 is an older model than the FWB so of course there are more adjustment that can be made
I'm just wondering if the 2 pistols feels somewhat the same

@ded
I currently use the Benelli mp90 and really like it
But I'm always looking to add more toys to my addiction!
Also wondering why the FWB is so expensive
From what I see it's not the most used pistol in any event
