Air Pistol Rental

Post by holmqer »

Are there places other then the CMP facilities in OH and AL where one can rent some of the high end air pistols like Steyr or Morini to try them out for an hour or so?

For .22LR matches there are no shortage of folks in the local Bullseye leagues who shoot just about every target pistol you can imagine, but no such luck for AP where almost everyone is shooting IZH 46M or Daisy Avanti

Maybe you should shoot elsewhere. Where I am there is nothing but a wide assortment of high end guns. Sometimes they are "old tech", but still top of the line.

Frankly, I have often recommended these guns to shooters not wanting to become heavily invested in the "latest and greatest" as I see no real advantage.

A couple I would look at would be a Pardini K58 (SSP) or an early FWB or Walther CO2 gun.

Unfortunately there are not a lot of options near where I live.

There are only 2 clubs within a 2 hour drive that hold AP matches, and the same crowd goes to both matches. Most of the folks who shoot these matches are primarily Bullseye league shooters who have AP as a secondary interest. They each have a 6 match monthly series October through March, and about 20 folks show up every match.

The only time I've seen some real variety is at the state AP championship, but all ports are booked for the entire day, so no chance to borrow one and try it out that day. About 70 folks show up from nearby states, so none of the folks with anything I've never tried live remotely near by.

There is an Air Gun store 2 hours away that runs Air Rifle matches that I have yet to visit, they offer rental of some models of the new AP they have for sale. The only competition AP they carry is a FAS 6004. They plan to run 10m AP matches some day, and I'll probably take a trip up there for a match and try that out at the same time when they do. They don't allow lead pellets on their range, so I'll have to buy some green pellets and play with elevation on my current AP to shoot there.

I don't think that the cmp rents Steyrs or Morinis. I have only seen the izzy46 and the AP20 on my trips there. Where are you located?

Ah well, if you were closer we might be at some of the same places and I would bring my LP10. My use for it is training for bullseye and specifically iron sighted 22 shooting. But I do find shooting the air pistol to be relaxing even when shooting matches like those at Camp Perry during the pistol phase.
