Why doesnt .22 wadcutters exist?
Those holes are so much nicer to see. But why dont they exist? It will solve some feeding failures like some head damage.
Re: Why doesnt .22 wadcutters exist?
Two reasons....
1/ The case diameter is basically the bullet diameter (case .226, bullet .225)
2/ .22 LR case is too short to seat a wadcutter, it would need to be 25-30 % longer.

Would have to be loaded in 22WMR case to overcome these problems.David M wrote:Two reasons....

Out of interest, I once had an Eley round that the bullet had been put in backwards. I fired it, it went straight and the hole in the target looked like a classic wadcutter hole.

Tenex/Match is a basically semi-wadcutter.....

Only if you recut the chamber. Ignoring the length, a .22 WMR case is slightly wider than the .22LR, specifically to allow the bullet to be seated like a centrefire.j-team wrote:[Would have to be loaded in 22WMR case to overcome these problems.
I find that the shape of the hole depends partly on the target material. Some card just cuts a cleaner hole even with round nose bullets. That said Eley Club/Sport often cut badly whatever the paper.
Re: Why doesnt .22 wadcutters exist?
I often shoot 36-grain hollow-point Winchester for practice. They cut a much cleaner hole, like a wadcutter.
Re: Why doesnt .22 wadcutters exist?
They do exist for 22 caliber airguns.
Re: Why doesnt .22 wadcutters exist?
Another question is why round-nose centrefire pistol ammunition can't seem to be as accurate as .22LR
Re: Why doesnt .22 wadcutters exist?
It is and so are semi wad cutters and conicals, but you will need to shoot a revolver because of the overall length.JamesH wrote:Another question is why round-nose centrefire pistol ammunition can't seem to be as accurate as .22LR
Only very short cases will fit a auto (9mm, .38 super etc).
