I have been running down a random "does not go bang" issue with my Hamerli 106, so i got out the tools.
Working from the exploded parts view, I slowly started unscrewing stuff.

HOLY CRAAP... I popped the breech block pin, wiggled out the breech block and looked inside at the finest machining I have ever seen in a firearm. This was JEWELRY... It is so sad that this kind of worksmanship in invisable unless disassembled a bit. I cleaned it up, oiled it in a few places and put it back together.

I knew they were expensive for something so simple, but maaan I am impresed.
I'm a MFG Engineer at Boeing and Im not usually that easy to impress.....

It's obvious that practically all "swiss made" products are of very high quality. However, like all things man made, there may be the occasional lemon...

Years ago, there was a lot of hand-wringing going on in Switzerland because the world was buying a LOT of digital watches, and a large number of Swiss watchmakers were facing unemployment. As luck would have it, Hewlett Packard was in the process of developing "millimeterwave" (higher in frequency than "microwave") test equipment, and needed qualified precision machinists to make all the fiddly bits. Apparently HP hired droves of them. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the watchmakers also went to work for Hammerli & Morini.

Watchmaking in Switzerland is fine. Gone are the dead weight and now everyone there is working on only high end model, whether it is the engineering side, or the artistic side. Also, they beat the Japanese and a point also the American their own games. Other than a few non Swiss big manufacturers such as Seiko Citizen and Casio, Switzerland essentially provides all the 'engines' underneath the hood of most watches. Yes, I am talking about watches that require the battery. Swatch was a stern warning to the rest of the world that the sleeping giant was waking up.

1. SIG P49 - first issue to Swiss Army 1949, mint
2. Hammerli made Sig P210
3. Sig P210 - sports trigger kit installed.
4. Sig P210-4. One of 5000 made for the West German Border Guards in 1950. Unfired, this gun is a jewel.
5. Sig P210-6 - unfired.
6. Sig P210-5 - unfired, fitted with factory "bleilauf" - special barrel for lead projectiles. Sig-Hammerli match grips.
7. Another Sig P210-5 with "bleilauf".
8. Swiss 06/24 Parabellum. 1928 manufacture.

I really like the Swiss Parabellum featured at the top post. From the looks of it, it's an 1899 or 1900 model - and in condition like that - an astronomical price tag...

Yeah, I like those a lot! I like the Dash-5s especially, and the Hammerli made 210, and of course the Luger. Essentially the whole lot is awesome.
