Rink grips on TOZ 35

Post by rmca »

Can anyone tell me how much do Rink grips for a TOZ35M weigh? Medium or large.

I had to fill my grips (CM, not the original ones) with a LOT of putty. Previous owner has a very different hand than mine.
I'm putting my TOZ on a diet and I am contemplating this option.

Also, do they screw in using the four bolts or just the top two?

Thanks!

Some weights from my TOZ-35M with Rink LBR0 grips and Centra fore-end.

1308 grams total.
1026 grams frame with bare Centra fore-end.
278 grams Rink LBR0 grips.
The remaining gram difference will be the hardware.

The grip halves mount with one screw on each side to the frame, and there is another screw below the rear sight holding the grip halves together. There is also a "slop screw" in the grip to compensate for frame angle in the grip, as the TOZ lower frames aren't all at the same angle. Very solid after adjustment.

I had shaved some of the thumb shelf being as it was very wide. The grip looks like it could support some hollowing out of material, either inside the grip or on the thumb side like a Morini grip.

Thanks a lot Sa-tevo!

My grip is currently at 374g... Almost 100g more than yours!
My TOZ is at 914g without any wood and without front sight (the original is 32g). Small aluminium tube instead of the fore end (wood fore end 68g).
Morini short compensator plus front sight is 73g.

Total weight without any permanent modifications is 1360g.

I´m facing three solutions to "compensate" the weight of the compensator at the end of the barrel:

1- Hollow out the CM grip. I'll probably do this anyway. Although I don't know how much weight I can trim down until I do it.
2- Get a Rink grip as a copy of my current one. I will save around 100g, get a much better adjustment on the palm shelf and an all wood grip that evaporates sweat much better, but at a cost of around 340€!
3- Cut some of the excess metal on the TOZ, in the grip area. I would really like to avoid this and only do it as a last resort.

Any other ideas?

Thanks very much!

In aerospace it is common to mill away material to save weight, leaving only webs. This could be considered for the lower frame and the grip. Remove anything that isn't necessary for shape, size or strength. The Rink grip and the TOZ frame both have a lot of material that is only along for the ride. This would be my preference if I still lived near my crazy tool-and-die man neighbor who liked to show off his shop skills. I'll refer you back to the thumb side of a Moroni grip where a groove of wood has been removed..

Drillium used to be popular, but I think it looks like amateur machine shop skills compared to milling with a ball mill bit. https://www.google.com/search?q=drilliu ... 14&bih=659

When I was involved in racing carbon fiber was getting some interesting applications. I wonder what a carbon fiber grip would weigh?
