Can anyone check if the California AB1964 will affect free pistol?
Re: CA AB 1964
(b) Article 4 (commencing with Section 31900) and Article 5 (commencing with Section 32000) shall not apply to a single-shot pistol with a break top or bolt action and a barrel length of not less than six inches and that has an overall length of at least 10½ inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled. However, Article 4 (commencing with Section 31900) and Article 5 (commencing with Section 32000) shall apply to a semiautomatic pistol that has been temporarily or permanently altered so that it will not fire in a semiautomatic mode.conradin wrote:Can anyone check if the California AB1964 will affect free pistol?
Apparently they are trying to close a loophole in the law where it was ok to sell an automatic pistol that was modified to be a single shot and sold as such. Then easily converted back to semiautomatic mode.
At least that's my take - single shot free pistols should be ok.

Don"t most free pistols have a Martini type dropping-block action? If the law specifies "break top or bolt action" are the Martini types covered? Clearly the Martini actions come within the spirit of the law, as would any of the falling block actions. In the real world, the difference may seem incredibly picky but the legal world sometimes appears to be in another universe entirely.
