Straightening TOZ-35 rear sight

Post by Jack OAT »

Hello,
I've got an issue with the rear sight of a TOZ-35M, which is canted to the right - appearing higher on the left than on the right while keeping the frame vertical.
It seems like that part #000.029 (the "sight leaf", #80 in the exploded view), which holds the sight, is lightly twisted lenghtwise.

Has anyone encountered the same problem? Have you got any advice on how to straighten the leaf, instead of filing the sight down to horizontal (something I'd like to avoid)? Can I try to twist it in the opposite direction through heating or is something risky/ineffective?
Thank you.

I would apply heat---don't use acetylene,, ordinary propane will do. Get a brass hammer and a small flat metallic surface and use judcicious whacks on the sight that should work---if not then a pair of strong pliers will work as well. This Russky technology is crude and can stand the abuse. These guns were used to install barbed wire during the week and a Free Pistol match on the weekend. "Doc"

Are you sure it's not the front sight that's crooked?

In any case, what I did with mine was to file down the rear sight until everything looked "square". Then I took a small chain saw file and cut the notch to a semi-circle. This is a very effective sighting system.

Remove and or adjust the rear sight blade to compensate, as there is some play in the sight blade retaining notches.
Or you can buy a new complete rear sight from Larrys Guns.

Is it canted when your hand/grip/hold is relaxed? I found with a Baikal MP-46M and a Hammerli X-esse that I like a cant. A total vertical grip was not relaxed. Damn manufacturers where ahead of me....
