Have you tried contacting Scott Plinkinton at Plinkguns in Tennessee?

Have you tried to call them directly and explained the situation? A lot of times I called a shop and explain to them that I am just buying a few screws and instead of shipping the normal expensive UPS way they just stuff it into an envelope. I did not email them, but rather talk to a person, who usually will ask the shipping clerk. This usually happens when you buy it directly on the web and they do not have any choices other than all the expensive options, because they presume most of the items cannot be put inside an envelope.
The downside of course, is that I have to stay up until 3-5am (usually Germany or Switzerland) to call them. But the telephone call is definitely worth the difference, in your case, $42.

They are a GREAT company, We have purchased from them many times and the service was outstanding. Also, they are a sponsor of USAS which means they deserve our support as they support Olympic shooting,

I have also purchased from the many times, with nothing but great service and products. If you watch any of the world cup air rifle matches in the US, you'll definitely see the Pyramyd logo. They put their money back into the matches.

Also, lets look at this realistically. Pyramid Air is geared to serve the American market.

With import export restrictions being what they are on gun parts, I bet they have to research the legality of every single stinkin item they send overseas.

They are also not in business to undercut domestic dealers in Australia.

I consider the 42 bucks shipping to be quite reasonable considering all these factors.

Frankly, even though I live less than two miles from my local post office. For me to drive there, fill out the customs declaration, stand in a line going out the door for twenty minutes, and finally mail the darn thing is worth quite a bit more to me, than saving twenty bucks on shipping, which is about all the difference would be by the time Pyramid Air charged domestic postage for delivery to me, and I paid another ten to send it on to Australia.
Time is money, and money is money.

Used to be in the US you had mail delivered to your door, and you could hand your local postman a package to send out for you(even handguns).

Maybe you still can in Australia, but that practice stopped over forty years ago here.
