Looking for info on collegiate shooting programs

Post by IPshooter »

Hello all,

I'm working on a "project", and I need to obtain a current list of all collegiate shooting programs in the USA. I found this info, but do not know if it's correct:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NC ... e_programs

What's needed is a list of schools showing which program(s) they offer (rifle, pistol, shotgun), whether it's supported as a varsity or club program, and the school's NCAA division (1, 2 or 3).

It appears that NCAA hosts rifle, NRA does pistol, and ACUI controls shotgun. Please let me know if this is incorrect.

A suggested format for responses is something like this:

School - University of Anywhere

Division - 1

Rifle - Varsity

Pistol - Club

Shotgun - None

Thank you in advance for responding.

Call the NRA or go on their web site, go to collegiate programs.
They publish a book that lists every school with a shooting program and which venue they have.

I will try later to find the exact link.
I have the book, but it is over 10 years old, and outdated.
They update the book each year.
You can call and ask for the collegiate dept. and order the book.

Hi Stan,

While the NCAA hold a rifle championship for schools that have a varsity rifle team, the NRA also holds a championship for schools that just have a club rifle team:

The NRA also has a list of schools with shooting programs. See the "Collegiate Shooting Sports Directory" link on this web page:

Thanks to all for replying. Didn't have any idea that the NRA offered a club level rifle championship. Glad to see it.

If anyone else has any other resources, please let me know.

Thanks,

Stan

The intercollegiate club championships are great, it basically allows some of the newer shooters to go to a national level match and get some experience there. A lot of the shooters (myself included) tend to love it and improve in the hopes of winning the next year.
