De-pinging PCP rifles such as Crosman Challenger

Post by sendler2112 »

The ping is caused by standing waves of air bouncing within the air chamber. Use the "Golden Ratio" to place two de-pingers at the most effective depths in the air tube.

Think breaking up the air wave resonance more than damping the metal tube walls. The ideal de-pinger would completely block the bouncing waves without restricting the original air burst. A real world de-pinger will find the best compromise between the two. The plug drilled with multiple holes like a sink strainer would work well. A full cinnamon roll of silicon tubing with notches cut out of one side of it's length (notches in the outer circumference of each roll) would be easy and would only use up the volume of the remaining wall thickness times length ( not it's internal volume).

All I can say is that I am unsure of how I have got through my life without knowing this. However after due consideration I am quite prepared to go on trying.

Some high powered air rifles like the Marauder have a really loud ping. I have also seen it mentioned here regarding the Challenger so thought I would share from the MRod forum.

Hmmm, Im not sure if the solution complies with the current edition of the ISSF Rules. I had better leave it to the experts.

Not a legal mod for a CMP 3-P Air Rifle.
4.2.5 Internal Modifications
The functioning of internal parts may be smoothened or improved, but only factory manufactured parts designed for that specific model rifle and functioning as they were originally intended to function may be used.
