springer airgun......

Post by Cousin Jack »

I shoot an old RWS Model 75 air rifle, mainly for training at home. It's still very accurate and reliable, but I worry about it's age -- I'll might need to replace it soon. I like the simplicity of a springer, and I wonder if there are any currently manufactured springers or pneumatic rifles still available with which I could replace the gun .... I don't intent to shoot matches, just training....

I would think an old Walther LGR with easily replaced O-rings might be something you might look at. Great shooter, too.

Just renew the seals if necessary and keep shooting the Diana 75.
They're GREAT shooters.
Anything other of similar age will give you sae issues regarding old seals.
You still cán buy the FWB603 new iirc, an ssp. But imo, a waist of money if yr training only, ánd that kinda money will buy you pcp as well.
There are no match springers made anymore.

If it suits your needs have it rebuilt fresh and it will shoot again like new for a long time. There are some models which are getting harder to find parts for readily but I think the 75 still has parts out there. Just make sure you use a reputable tuner for the job. I would contact David Slade at http://www.airgunwerks.com/tunes.html he knows what he is doing.

The Diana 75 is nice to shoot, but it is a fairly complicated gun to refurbish.

The FWB 600 series are "modern" pumpers with uptodate "compact" ergonomics (and a higher price) compared to the Walther LGR, but they are all nice.

Another option is the old FWB 300S springer. It has very nice ergonomis and is surprisingly accurate, single hole at 10 M.
Seems to be quite common these days to tune this one for higher power, add a scope and use it for Field Target competition.
