New Eley test facility in Tx.

Post by ahlenius »

Is it true that in order to have your barrel tested at this facility the cost is $45(great Deal)But also that you are obligated once the barrel has been tested to buy 1/2 a case of Eley Tenex ammunition (5 bricks) at $18.45 per box which equals approx $1000.00? What if some of the test ammo i bring such as RWS, ELEY match, Lapua, etc.to compare does as well or better than their test lots? Am i understanding this wrong anyone? i mean really if a box of $11 ammo works as well or better why am i forced to buy the high dollar stuff?

$11 a box? High dollar stuff? Are you nuts?

But then, as an Olympian I guess it's a write-off for you. (sarcasm; since some here don't get it)

In the UK there's no obligation to buy so I'd be surprised if it were different there. I do though wonder if you need to spend that amount to get the testing free ? I.e. you get that deducted from the ammo bill.

But as mentioned, ask them, they will know better than us.

I was just at the opening in Texas and their range is exactly like the ones in England and Germany. Very nice.

Just to clarify some things:
There is a $45 fee to test on the range. Just to put that in perspective,
You will probably shoot a minimum of a brick of Tenex (at $185 per brick) during your testing. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think there is a fee to test in England, but you are expected to purchase a larger amount of ammunition at the conclusion of the test (a case?). $45 is cheaper than flying to England and dealing with licensing issues.

You can test pistols here. Can't do that in England with their laws. So far just Pardini and Morini, but will be working on more models as the need arises.

If your control lot shoots better than the Tenex test lots, you are not obligated to buy any.

Why Winters, TX? Because Dan and Dawn Killough of Killough Shooting Sports are a major distributor of Eley and are well Known in the rimfire benchrest community. They provided the land and have the expertise to staff the range.

This test range is just for testing Tenex. It is an extra level of service you get for buying the top grade of Eley. The Tenex limitation does not exactly apply to pistol testing as there are different grades of Eley ammunition specifically designed for pistol shooting. Call Dan or Dawn for more info.

I you are interested in testing or have other questions, call Dan or Dawn at (325) 754-5771.

Eley in Texas

Thanks, Eric, for the insights.

When I went to Birminghham, Eley had a license to possess "prohibited weapons." so Dan Olley met me at the airport and took possession of my pistols after I cleared Customs and Immigration.

At that time they had a fixture for testing TOZ 35's, Hammerli 208s, and a Ransom Rest (provide your own adapter) for anything else.

Testing was free for foreigners, there was a fee for UK residents.

Since Bert Brookes passed away I've not been in contact with anyone there.
