Does anyone know why Jin JongOh (AP60, FP) does not attend the world cup final this week?
Neither does Guo Wenjun (AP40) nor Lenka Maruskova (SP).
World Cup Final Pistols Jin Jongoh etc. not in entry list??

I can only assume they didn't qualify for it, or if they did they didn't want to attend (don't forget some athletes will still be resting post Olympics, or at least not back up to full speed again).conradin wrote:Does anyone know why Jin JongOh (AP60, FP) does not attend the world cup final this week?

Rob.
Jin is the double Olympic Gold Medalist, Guo is the Olympic Gold Medalist, Maruskova is the defending WCF Gold Medalist. They are automatic qualifiers.
I looked at the past records of WCF and I cannot recall when was the last time either the World Champion of that WCF year or the Olympic Gold Medalist of that WCF year did not win medals, let alone did not attend. I don't know about the two women, but Jin not showing up I don't quite understand the reason. Does he really need that break since everyone else show up except him.
I look through the web news and there is no mention of this situation.

Not being a world class shooter, my answer is pretty well unfounded, but I'd think it must be very anticlimatic to keep shooting after a feat so outstanding as Jin's.
There are records of athletes that in such circunstances even quit practising their main sport, and started another (maybe just for the thrill).
I don't think it'd easy to top two Golds in the same Games (in shooting, at least).
I'm not saying this is the case, but there are a lot of personal-related possiblities.
After all, what does have any of them to prove by winning a WCF??

Of course he (they) needs a break, it's a physical and even more so mentally tough job and a 3 month + break is common.conradin wrote: <snip>

Martynov <sp?> isn't there either and there's quite a few other names missing.
Rob.
So the guy who pretty much did nothing special in his entire career (one World Cup win in his entire career and that is 7 years ago) ended up winning the 2012 WCF FP. Just to show you how small the margin is when it comes to this sport. The Olympic silver medalist ended up 8th, and the bronze medalist did not even make it to the final.
Of course there is always the question "What if Jin has showed up?"
