Hammerli sp20 grip sizing versus the rest

Post by deadeyedick »

It seems that Hammerli mark their grips as meaning a size smaller than the marking states. The Importers brought this to my attention, and even the website states that the large Hammerli grip is equal to Walthers medium, and the " XL " is equal to a "L" and so on.
The "L" feel exactly as a large grip feels from other manufacturers. ( to me ), even though Hammerli has gone to great lengths to claim it as a medium.
My question is.....does anyone have an SP20 with a grip marked as "M" , and approximately what width palm would it be suitable for ?

SP20 RRS Grip Size

Post by mld »

My SP20 with the factory "L" grip fits my hand perfectly (100mm palm width.)

The factory "M" grip on both my GSP Expert and SSP are about 15% smaller than the Hammerli "L" grip, so probably close enough for the factory to say "equal."

Thanks mid. I am hoping that the palm shelf will move down far enough on the "M" Hammerli grip to accommodate a palm width of 90-95 mm.
The shooter involved finds the large hammerli a little thick through the mid section, even though trigger distance is still fine.
He is hoping the medium grip will be a little slimmer in the middle, and yet still have enough palm shelf adjustment. Unfortunately there is no standard from one manufacturer to another, and no provision for a "hands on to see if it fits" by dealers/distributors in most cases.

I have a 90mm hand, and the SP20 "M" grip feels too small for me.
