Newbie seeking spring rifle recommendations

Hi Everybody,

I'm looking for a new activity to replace archery. I thought that I might try 10m air rifle because I can do it in the house (community association and weather). I would like a spring rifle that would not be very inexpensive, in case I don't stick with it. However, if I do, I want a rifle on which I could make some Frankensteinian modifications to get the feel and accuracy (+/-) of a more expensive rifle before I invest.

Is there anything like that? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Not as cheap as an LGR, but it has enough adjustability that you shouldn't need to upgrade for quite some time.

Thank you everybody for the suggestions. From the selection I guess that I should estimate spending around $500. Also, the suggestions are "past" models. Does that mean that all of that current models are not as good?

People have recommended 1980's (and older) rifles because you asked for spring-powered. In the '80s manufacturers went over to Single Stroke Pneumatic, and Pre-Charged Pneumatic designs. These produce less recoil; the latest PCP rifle are totally recoilless, and cocking requires almost no physical energy, unlike the recoilless spring guns recommended.

Hi Tim,
Thank you for explaining. I see my error. I just definitely did not want a rifle that would require cartridge refills or cumbersome equipment (diving tank).

If you don't want PCP, maybe look for a Single-Stroke Pneumatic then. No need for scub tanks, CO2 bottles, but no recoil.
