Kowa spotting scope repair?

Post by IPshooter »

My trusted Kowa TS-9 has apparently come unglued and will not focus. Not surprising since it's 25 years old!

Is there anyone on TT with experience repairing them?

TIA

I have a TS501 that broke internally. I don't know when it broke but I would guess that wind blew the gun box door over and it cracked and sometime later suddenly fell apart. I disassembled it and it was pretty simple. Some screws were hard to get in the right place but it was not complicated. I glued the very thin parts back together with super glue and then roughed up the part with sand paper and put real thin wires from a wire brush as splints to make the broken spots stronger and covered them with JB Weld. The inside is really delicate when there is no reason for it to be that way especially when I paid around $200 for it and have looked at Burris landmarks that cost in the $60 range that were smaller and clearer to look through. If the Burris was still available I would have one. I fixed the Kowa about 5 years ago so it has withstood the test of time because the entire box has blown over since then while it was open. -- Bill --

Guys, thanks for the info.

I talked with the USA rep for Kowa, and their lifetime warranty is really only 10 years. They'll look at mine for $50 and decide 1) if it can repaired and 2) if they have the parts.

Looks like I'll take a chance on fixing it myself. There are relatively inexpensive scopes out there now.
