Hey, Paper Punchers, Scared of a Little Shotgun Shooting?

Post by smoking357 »

Taking nothing away from bullseye shooting, as I enjoy it greatly, but see if there's an Olympic trap facility near you. Bring or borrow any 28" or longer over/under or semiauto shotgun, and give it a try.

It might be the greatest challenge in all the shooting sports.

Here's a three-minute ISSF video of World Cup highlights.

Unfortunately the trap bunkers at Miramar have been permanently closed by the Marine Corps.

Triple-B is just across the highway from the LA Rifle and Revolver Club range. I'll plan on bringing my shotgun with me the next time I head up for a match and try to shoot a round afterwards.

Two problems with Shotgun shooting:-
A/ it becomes addictive (lots of fun)
B/ then it becomes expensive $$$

And how, exactly, does that distinguish it from any other shooting sport? :-)

I tried shooting sporting clays once. Problem I had was, after having shot smallbore and high power rifle for 40 some odd years (stationary targets), I couldn't quite figure out how to shoot at a moving target. With time, I could make it happen, and it would be fun, but I am not there yet, due to lack of time.

Point, don't aim. Quite unlike paper punching, when you pull that trigger, your bead is frequently sighted on clear blue sky that the target is going to fly into.
