2012 Olympics Laser Shooting?

I have only recently become aware of the I/Q, Laser shooting equipment that will be used in the 2012 Modern Pentathlon.

What will be the short term (next five years) consequences of this equipment change for the local level competitor?

Will the high end air pistols, as we know them now, disappear being replaced by their I/Q, Laser equipped equivalents?

Will scoring equipment be in a price range that a local club can afford?

I know my question is kind of a ramble but you probably have some comments or concerns regarding this subject.

I don't think there will be any changes. The whole laser gizmo has a lot of problems, especially with accuracy. And there are only a few countries that regulate match-grade air pistols. I suspect there are some kickbacks going on in the Modern Penthalon leadership.

Of you for your responses. I had seen the I/Q equipment pages prior to my question but was uncertain on how it would affect the 10M sport.

It certainly looks expensive and hopefully it will not drive up the cost of local competition the same way that PCP has.

Just a general comment Chris. When the Olympics level shooters went to PCP the masses followed. Only a few high end CO2 or SSP pistols left to purchase new now that PCP is here.

The charging equipment is quite expensive, bulky and has a maintenance cost of its own. Most of us were not being held back by the equipment but hey, I gotta have that new stuff:)

My observations and comments only. Not worth much in themselves but I would not enjoy another cost elevating hardware issue entering the game for the sake of some anti gun lobbies and subsequent manufacturers pushing their solution to the newly created problem.

Only the concerns of an old timer..... ME.

What are you using to charge your cylinders then???
I personally have a RX pump, but mainly just use the dive tank provided at the range where I shoot. Its a free service, you just need your cylinders and filling adaptor!

As for prices of PCP guns, if people didnt want to spend the money, no one is forcing them too... buy once, us for many years to come...
