.45 Bullet Question

Howdy!
I just noticed that my stash of STAR 185 LSWC bullets has dwindled down to about 1500 bullets. I guess I better find a replacement, since I bought these in a pallet from my Bullseye Club when I lived in Michigan about 5 years ago. I assume that STAR Bullets went under?
I need some 185 LSWC bullets for my wadcutter pistol, and I would like advice on some 185 and/or 200 grain jacketed bullets for the 50 yard line. I have had great acuracy from Federal Gold Medal, and wondered if the SWC bullet that they use is available as a component, or something close. Or do I need a Nosler? Either way, I would appreciate knowing which bullet, by name and/or code number, is the proper one to use.
One last thing, since I use their .44 cal LSWC Keith bullet for Metallic Silhouette, how good is Laser-Cast's 200grain LSWC? I have this feeling that I will be hard pressed to meet the old STAR's accuracy.....

I have had good success with both Precision Delta and Zero SWHP. I don't shoot any jacketed bullets so I can't help you there. Scott

try Missouri bullet company. I have been impressed with the bullets i have gotten from them. They shot very well.

I too often use jacketed bullets for 50 yds.
I have had great success with Zero 185 gr JHP.

I have had excellent results with the Nosler, but fellow club members report very good results with the Zero. Magnus might be another viable option.

Which Nosler did you use? JHP or? 185gr or?
Sorry, I just rarely see them, so I'll need to order the right type.

The Nosler .45-185 JHP is the most popular.

Midway has the Nosler 185 gr. JHP bullets for reloading .45 ACP. They are on sale and selling them by the 1,000, I believe. You might also check with Midsouth Shooters Supply.

The magic 50yd combo used by the AMU or MMU, can't remember which without checking my back issues of Handloader, was a 185 Nosler, N-310 powder and Winchester primed brass. Vitah Vouri won't publish any powder that won't fill half the case, but this cocktail was invented by a Michigan Bullseye shooter and is a really accurate load.
PS: still waiting for a callback on that Giles.

Hi Amanda 4461, Dardas casts a very accurate H&G 130 if that's what
you're looking for. The H&G 130(185gr) design is what most of us used for 25 and
50 yards years ago. The 130 will work, if you have the pistol and load to
send it to the target. I witnessed a 10 shot 50 yard group that measured .75" ctc.
back in 1973.

zero makes the best copy of the star 185 swc-hp, precision delta makes one too but there quality is far less than the zero.

Magnus makes the bullet you need. Company owner is a 2650 club member who made 2650 with his own cast bullets. I'd save those jacketed 185 HPs for the 50 yard line if your gun requires them to shoot well.

I am from the Kalamazoo, MI area. Star discontinued operations ca 7 years ago. My son was at Indiana University and I always stopped at Star on the return trip. I purchased 35000 of those 185 gr. LSWCHP when they were going out of business - still have ca 7000 left. They were the least expensive match quality bullet available at that time.
