185 GR Remington JSWC

Post by mayhaw12 »

Hello Gang, Been trying ti douplicate the Federal 185 Gr SWC with
No Luck. Have tried the Remington 185 JSWC but they still will not group like the Factory Federal's. Bought some Hornady 185 GR JSWC to try
using WST HP38 and bullseye and Bullseye at 4.3 seems to Group good.
Wonder if any one else has tried to douplicate the Factory Federal 185 GR
Wadcutter

Ok Thanks a lot, Will try WST at 4.8, and see what I get with that load.
Tried 4.3 wst and got 4" groups. Maybe the extra UMPH!! with 4.8 will
tighten up them groups. My gun will shoot 2 1/2 inches with the factory
Stuff (Federal). I even copied the crimp and OAL.

4.2 gr VVN130. But you really want the Nosler 185 gr JHP bullet.

Mayhaw12, What kind of barrel do you have in your gun? That may give you a better quality feedback as to what loads you should try. Also, are the federal factory loads that work well jacketed?
Also, I think Davekp meant VVN310, which I agree is a very good powder.

Sometimes what you need to do is start in the middle with a load and work up and down two tenths of a grain at a time until you find the sweet spot for your gun.

Hello Isibell1130, I have a Kart Barrel in my wad gun and yes the Federal
are Jacketed SWC Bullet. I am going to try the VV310 and see how it does. About 4.2 to start then work up. Thanks

Kart barrels are designed to shoot lead. This does not mean that they will not shoot jacketed bullets, it just means that jacketed bullets may be overkill, expense wise. A lot of people don't like to use jacketed for anything but the long line because of that. If you really want to use jacketed (or lead) you should look at the zero bullets. They are about as good and as cheap as you are going to find.
One caution, Jacketed bullets should not follow lead ones without a complete barrel cleaning. It will wear the barrel fast if the jacketed bullets drive the lead deposits into the walls of the barrel, and also can reduce your accuracy significantly during the course of a 2700 shot in one day.

Ok isabel1050, I will try that this evening, I am a lot closer now than
Before. Do not shoot Jacketed after lead, been shooting all JSWC. Wish
I had some Solo 1000 to try, Thanks a lot
