Scoring???

What does it mean if some one is an 800 shooter or a 500 shooter??? I do not know any thing about this would like to know or find out. I do know that ten in the X is 100 and so on

It's simple. A match is 90 shots each worth 10 points. The 900 is broken down into Slow Fire, National Match Course, Timed Fire, and Rapid Fire. You add up the value of each shot for a total for the match, say 855-50X. X's have a value of 10, but are only used as a tie-breaker (equal score with more X's wins). An 800 shooter is one who consistently shoots around 800.

A 2700 (3 gun) match is three 900 matches, each with a different gun (.22, Center-fire, .45).

There are other matches, but the above is pretty much it.

I would guess that someone described as a 500 shooter has been shooting that score in a 60 shot match (Slow Fire 2x10, Timed Fire 2x10, Rapid Fire 2x10) out of a possible total of 600 points. Some ranges will shoot 1800 matches (3 pistols, 600 possible points each) instead of 2700 matches to speed things up, especially at a small range where it takes two relays to give everyone a chance to shoot.

Shooting 500 in a 900 point match is a really, really bad day at the range!
