Anschutz 2018 Rifle or 1918???

Hi.

I'm looking to get my first small bore rifle and I've been looking at the Anschutz 2018 Free Rifle - Precise. Can anyone tell me what the differences and advantages(or disadvantages) over the 1918 model. Sorry if I'm cluless but I would like to know what is the difference with the heavy rectangular reciever?

The rectangular receiver was introduced in the early 1990s ostensibly so that the action would be less sensitive to changes in bedding of the action to the stock. The rectangular action also has a feature where the barrel can be removed and reset or replaced by the shooter. Note, very few shooters are at the level where the barrel change feature will be really important.

Like anything, some shooters will have their favorite that they swear by but have never seen a conclusive report that one action is truly more accurate over the other.

Both are fine actions. While Anschutz is no longer absolutely dominant in world cup / olympic competition they way they once were you will still find plenty of examples of both round and square anschutz actions on the world stage.

The precise stock is fantastic in my opinion. Either action is cool, and I would lean to the 2018 to swap out barrels for balance. You will enjoy the new rifle.

Thanks for your replies. All very helpfull, thankyou. As we are on the subject can anyone offer any more advise on small bore target rifles for me? What barrel length should I be considering etc?

How does the Anschutz compare to the Feinwerkbau 2700 Free Rifle and the Walther KK300?

I shoot a 2013 with a 500mm barrel with a 12 inch bloop tube. It is in a Stopper stock (soon to be MEC). I like it but I wouldnt say it is the best rifle out there. I think the best rifle is the rifle that fits the shooter the best.

I REALLY like the Walther anatomic rifle. If i buy another rifle in the future it will be the Anatomic. One big plus for the walther action is where the loading port is. The walther loading port is farther back so you dont have to move out of position as much to load the rifle.

Go watch a world cup final. Walthers are becoming dominant.

I love my Walther KK300.

How tall are you and do you have short arms? I couldn't get behind either the Anschutz or the Feinwerkbau, though I think the new Anschutz Precise goes a fair bit shorter. Don't like that non-tilting cheekpiece it has, though.

I'm quite tall, 6'2" with long arms. Why couldn't you get behind the Anschutz or Feinwerkbau? Are they more suitable for tall or shorter people?
Which model Walther KK300 do you use?

I'm too short - the minimum distance between the butt and the trigger is too long for me. You'll be fine with any of them at that height :)

I have the "ordinary" Walther KK300, i.e. not the anatomic. This one.

What are peoples opinions on the Feinwerkbau 2700 Free Rifle. I have not had the chance to see and handle one. I know Feinwerkbau are big in air rifle shooting but do they measure up to small bore?
