What do ya'll recommend for 1911 magazines?

Howdy,
I have my first hardball pistol set to be delivered in the next week or two and was wondering what brand mags folks are having good luck with. I know that in some circles the Wilson's are the standard, but not sure if that holds true for Bullseye. Also, I don't mind spending less if another brand will work just as well. I have some stuff I need to order from Midway so I figure I'll get a couple of mags at the same time...

I myself use Chip Macormic mags......My gun has issues at times with wilsons........My shootin buddy has the same gun and runs with wilsons perfectly .....so mags are like ammo gotta play around some ......

I've had good luck with Check-mate magazines. They make three kinds of feed lips - USGI or tapered, hybrid and wadcutter. They make removeable bases or welded bases, 7 or 8 round.

The wadcutter lip mags work in my 3 wadguns, I use the hybrids in my ball gun.

The hybrid mags are reported to cure magazine related problems in lots of 1911s.

+1 on Metalform. A lot of aftermarket mags are actually made by Metalform.

I agree on the Metalform magazines with the round followers.

I dont think there is anything wrong with any brand magazine as long as it works perfectly with your ammo / gun combination. This can only be confirmed by testing. I believe you need three magazines that never malfunction , Number them and if one malfunctions , throw it over the bsck stop and test another to replace it. Good Shooting Bill Horton

I use the 8 shot Metalform mags - they have proven totally reliable in 45 ACP. I also use the 8 shot 40 S&W and 9 shot 38 Supoer and 9mm Metalform mags for action pistol events.

Metalform: round top follower and removable base. The round top follower seems to be better. The removable base makes cleaning easier. I don't have those yet, all of mine are currently welded base. Two on the hardball gun, two on the Wadgun, and three on the Carry gun.

Wilson from Brownells. They have a nice finish on the exterior and internally, the follower has little resistance. I have had no FTFs. And they cost very little.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but the standard old "Colt" marked blue 7rd magazine has worked just fine for me. Feeds SWC rounds with no problem in my Colt Gov't Model, Colt Gold Cup, Sig 1911 and Les Baer custom.

I recommend Wilson magazines, excellent consistancy, nice finish and easy to take apart for cleaning.

+1 on the 7 round Colt Mags. They are inexpensive and work.

I have tried many others. Most, annoyingly, fail to feed in my RRA NM Hardball.

I have some Shooting Star mags and Wilson. The Wilson is really nice but the old Shooting Star mags are cheaper and work well in my old Customs Colt 1911.

Don't forget that there is a difference between a wad magazine and a hardball magazine. Each might work with the other but might not either.

What you definitely DO NOT want to do is buy the $10 magazines at a gun show.
Ask me how I know.
100 rds later, they bulge, and don't fit in the mag well.
