Prone sight adjustmnet.

Post by Scott »

Currently we have been shooting 3P at 50 feet. Going to shoot a prone match at 50 yards and 100 yards.

Question how many "clicks" up on a ANS sight to transition from 50 feet to 50 yards to get me in the black. Same question to transition from 50 yards to 100 yards?

Thanks.

It will vary depending on the sights used but very roughly maybe 8-10 clicks 50ft - 50Y and another 50-60 clicks 50Y to 100Y. That's about the figures I work to on my Anschutz although my shorter distance change is 25Y -> 50M so slightly different.

The advice the local HS coach gives his shooters (who usually shoot at 50 ft) when they come to the prone matches (50y and 100y) is to use their 50ft zero at 50 yards, then come up 50 clicks from 50y to 100y. They're usually pretty close.

My sights are nominally calibrated in minutes, and I come up ~6 minutes (5 on the front ladder, one on the rear sight) from 50 to 100 yards.

You'll be fine at 50y. The sight change should not be more than a few clicks depending on ammo. As for 50 to 100, it is a 9min change. So on your last 50y target before 100, click up until you're in the lettering above the sighted bull, or 4.5in. That should get you pretty close. 50 clicks isn't a bad number either. It all depends on your sights, for me it's 83 up and 6 right.
