Point system to make the Olympic team in US

Post by PaulB »

Kim Rhode just made the Olympic team based on "points earned". I know that the US needs a quota slot and the individual shooter needs to have fired a MQS at a world level match but where is this point system for actually making the team explained? Who has how many points through the WC in Sydney? Thanks for any info.

Hi Paul,

In addition to Spencer's link for shotgun:

Rifle and Pistol Selection Procedures

I'm not certain that a current points tally is published online anywhere, though it would be possible for anyone to do so.

To my knowledge there are no lists of who has how many points.

That being said:
Kim Rhode as reached the threshold required for the Women's Skeet team.
Josh Richmond for Men's Double Trap
Jamie Beyerle for Women's 3x20
Matt Emmons for Men's 3x40
and now me for Men's Prone (didn't want to jinx myself by posting anything on this when it was originally asked after Sydney).

As far as I know, only Rhode is unbeatable on points and thus has already been nominated to the US Olympic team. I'm guessing nobody else will be nominated to the team until after the points qualification season is over (after Munich world cup for rifle/pistol, and after the Shotgun world championships), or if we too become unbeatable.
