Hello!
Does anyone here know of a source for the old style rapid fire targets and/or the replacement centers? I'm referring to the long silhouette target with the oblong scoring rings.

or was the reason that the rectangular target was put in the 'too hard' basket for electronic targets?Rover wrote:I'm sure you realize they were dropped because shooting at a "black man" was not considered politcally correct.
The newer circular RF target is still black, but fits the 'standard' EST boxes for 25/50m.

I found the B-18 at the American Target Company website. At least, they have the repair center, (albeit listed as a combat target).
I'd like to explain a bit about what I'm planning on doing. Our club regularly holds special fun matches. These inevitably become some sort of spray and pray event. Since we have turning targets for bullseye and international pistol, and various timers, I was planning on introducing a centerfire/rapid fire event, following an abbreviated course of fire similar to conventional rapid fire and perhaps more generous time limits.
I hope it would encourage members to participate in a precision style event without feeling they need for specialty equipment beyond an accurate centerfire pistol such as S&W revolver or a good 1911.
I hope I haven't strayed too far off topic for the "olympic pistol" page of this forum.

PS: If anyone knows how to track down the old full silhouette, please post some info. The target in question is rather long, rectangular and narrow, only vaguely torso shaped.

The target the OP talks about is the pre-1989 rules one. Across the centerline it included from right-7 to left-7, the upper limit was the 4-point zone, bottom reached to the 1.
Complete, it stood about 160 cm. high, and the center should be plced as to stand 140 cm. from the ground the shooter was standing. What is listed as B-18 target is simply the replacement center, as the top and bottom zones usually got very few shots.
As the OP suggest, they were very useful in our shooting club for beginners matches, as the zones are wide and final results were "closer" in points, while the best would still wins (as always, I suppose) but without discouraging the "tail" shooters with abismally low scores.
As far as I know, there is no one anywhere printing those old target, probably due to lack of demand (there have been too many modifications on the course) and also onaccount of its price: it was big and fully black, consuming at least four times the ink a current target demands.
We used our stock until depleted, and then moved to the new target, but allowing for more leisurely timed series for beginners.
