Daisy 887 Barrel Weight

Post by silentfury214 »

Hey,
I was wondering about adding a second barrel weight to the Daisy 887.
1. Do you have to move the first one forward at all?
2. Does it get in the way of the CO2 tank at all?
3. Is it legal?
Thanks!

1) No, but you do have to remove it to get the new one on.
2) Nope, if you use the 887 weight .... it will if you use the older, thicker 888 one (the one with the FS welded on)
3) Yup ... although you do want to weigh the rifle after you put it on. There are slight differences in 887 stock weights, and if you are using a lot of buttplate spacers you could go over the 7.5 lb max. If you do, just remove the buttplate & spacers and drill some holes in the stock, removing some of the wood under the buttplate until you are under 7.5 lbs. I had a shooter a few years ago that was using 2 spacers and adding a 2nd bbl weight caused him to go over by 1-3/4 oz (w/an empty cylinder).... easy fix.
4.2.2 Weight of the Rifle
The total weight of the rifle with sights and attachments (sling not included) may not be more than 7.5 pounds (3.402 kg). If a compressed air or CO2 rifle is used, the cylinder (full or empty) must be weighed with the rifle. Weight may be added to the rifle as long as the total weight of the rifle does not exceed 7.5 pounds. Weights may be added in any internal location. Any external weights (visible from outside the rifle) must be placed on the barrel or on the fore-end. Barrel weights must be within a radius of 30mm (1.2 in.) from the center of the barrel. Weights on the fore-end may not extend more than 50mm (2.0”) from the fore-end.
Note: Weights attached to the barrel may extend no more than 30mm in any direction from the center-line of the bore. Weights may be attached to the fore-end rail as long as they protrude no more than 50mm from any surface of the fore-end.

Is it easy to put the original weight back on?

Sure .... all it takes is a hex driver.
If you are going to shoot a lot it will be good to have a tool with multiple drivers .... you can get them at Home Depot. Get one for SAE sizes (american) and if you are looking into precision or smallbore get one for metrics as well ... I think they are about $8 each, probably cheaper if they have a "package deal" with both.
