YES! AP:97/100: The good way

Post by Oz »

Well, I'm new enough to shooting that I still celebrate my positive, good moves. I've learned that actual scores aren't discussed here very often. I get it. You prove it in competition. Yapping about it on a forum is pretty meaningless. But tonight, I celebrate an achievement and I wanted to share. In one of my 10-shot series, I shot a 97/100.

I've had a few of them before, but not the 'good way'. Before, I might have had an 88 with 1 shot left... knew it, and proceeded to shoot a 9. That illustrates the mental part with which I'm learning.

Tonight, I had my nines early on. I had a 67 with 3 shots left. I shot a 10. Okay... cool. It felt good. Next one, I shot another 10. It also felt good and I called it as a 10, so alright... that's cool. But now... with one shot left and a score of 87, I would have to shoot another 10 for a (relatively rare for me) 97. A few deep breaths and raise. Chop wood, carry water. I watched my front sights as I had done so well to that point. Gentle squeeze... pop. I didn't even have to look to see that it was a 10. I knew it was. MAN do those feel GOOD! But just to be sure, I did look and it was a 10 -a deep inner 10 just to top it off right.

But, no... don't fear me in competition yet. As all (now relatively) new shooters quickly learn, one of the most significant challenges in competitive shooting is learning to "do" in competition. BUT... it's only a matter of time before I chop wood and carry water in competition.

What a cool & fun competitive sport we have. Shoot well everyone!
