In theory it should. The 853 has a "hammer" and it hits the valve when released. It is that sound that triggers the electronic trainers like my Rika. You would have to strap the receiver to the muzzle weight as there really isn't any place else to strap it to.
The scatt trainer is adjustable and will work with the 853. I had my Scatt set up for our 853 and dedicated a single rifle to that device to save time during practices.
