air pistol and pellet (size, shape, weight)

Post by Steven Johnson »

Sorry if this is a bone-head question, but I'm new to air pistol and have noticed that there are many different sizes, shapes, and weights of pellets. Do specific air pistols work better with certain types of pellets? Or is selecting a pellet more of a personal preference thing? The reason why I ask is because there are so many different types of pellets and I'm not sure I want to spend the $ and time sighting in all the different pellets with my air pistol.

Thanks

You might have to, until you find the right one for your gun.

As you are starting out, like I was and still am, just get the Vogel Sport. That should do you for a while. When you get better, then you can start trying the different match grade pellets.

Target pellets are usually wadcutters, to punch a nice hole in the target.

Check out this link, go down to the Pellet section.

For 10M Air Pistol there is only one type used; the wadcutter (flat nose).

In tests I did, there was no significant difference in any decent pellet at your level of shooting.

This will tell it all:

I recommend RWS Diabalo Basic or Hobby for their low price and decent performance.

i agree with you Rover on this point i started on RWS RN10's they were by far the best pellet going at a price, i made the mistake of getting a new pellet from Napier (these were classed as excellent) because rws were out of stock in the whole of the UK, they looked the same as rws good looking and the same weight but pre-lubed, when i tried them there was no alterations on my sights but the holes were raggy and not well defined i think if you are going to shoot pistol even as a beginner use the best there is we have many different types of pistol pcp, Co2 ,springers, and after testing them against different brands everyone decided that RWS RN 10 's were the best
have fun
