CO2 operation

Post by roostonu »

I am brand new to precision air guns and I have a question about the pistols that operate on CO2. Do they all use the small cartridges that cheaper pistols use or is there another means to fill them?

If they do all use them, how many shots do you get from one cartridge? Is the pressure regulated so that you get consistent velocity or is the velocity different from shot 1 to shot 30?

Thanks
Eric

Most are filled from a large tank. The only match air pistol I'm familiar with that can use the cartridges is the Tau-7. One cartridge is good for ~ 70 or more shots. Baring wild temperature variations during the course of a match, the velocity is quite consistent. The Tau-7 can also be filled from a larger tank, in which case it uses the chamber the cartridge fits in as a reservoir.

Hi Eric, most CO2 match pistols have removable cylinders that are filled
from a separate CO2 tank. Co2 APs do not need a regulator. I get over
220 shots per cylinder. Every one of those shots are very, very close in
velocity. My CO2 pistol tolerates temperature variation also very well.
I've shot in 52-102F degrees with no need for sight correction.

CO2 propellant is out of vogue nowadays, but I prefer it. My best CO2
match pistol is a Steyr LP1-C, but I also have an FEG GPM-1 as a loner
and possible backup. Our host has on this website, an nice essay on using
CO2 Match pistols.
