Would Morini front sight fit on Steyr?

Post by fkw »

I want to get a wider front sight for my Steyr LP10.

The widest Steyr front sight is 5.0mm.

The widest Morini is 5.5mm.

Just wonder if Morini 5.5mm would fit on LP10 .

Not high enough, I think. Otherwise, both have 2mm screws, so why not - wouldn't be the strangest combination ever.

So Morini free pistol front sight is too tall, Morini air pistol front sight is too short for Steyr LP10?

Got home in the meantime, took some measurement. My Steyr has a 12mm high front sight (looks more than just a bit like a GSP frontsight, btw) and my Morinis are between 7 and 8mm. So, depending on where your rear sight is, I'd say that's cutting it close. On the other hand, the base of the Steyr is 7mm wide, that of the Morini 8mm - so either you lift the Morini (up) on the "sidewalls" of the barrel shroud, or you slim it down somewhat. Not impossible, but all in all it's probably easer to put a wider "face" on a Steyr frontsight.

How do you make a "wider" face plate for front sight?

What material?

If you do done one, I would be very much obliged if you could walk me through it.

Basically, whatever there is at hand. I have a Morini FP somewhere that has a 5cm wide transparent plastic plate as a front sight, on which a vertical black bar is painted on. Personally, I'd go for soldering a conveniently sized piece of steel on the existing frontsight. To try the concept out, a piece of plexiglas painted matte black would do the job probably just as well - AP's don't lose a lot of parts due to recoil. I've put pistols together with stolen frontsights, non-matching rearsights, grips from other brands, all sorts of weights and compensators, nothing ever fell off. Don't be choosy, whatever works, works. And you distract all others on the range ;-)

On the other hand, IMPO, the size of the sights is not all that important, but I'm known to work (i.e. play around with the depth of the rearsight) on the overall geometry to get a square looking frontsight. I just like that.
